Derbyshire in the movies

Derbyshire and the Peak District are very beautiful and it seems that Hollywood has noticed. Many movie and television makers take advantage of this beauty in the production of films and TV series.

Calver Mill, Hope Valley

Calver Mill (1785, rebuilt 1805) has recently been converted into luxury apartments but in it's past was a cotton mill and a TV set.

The Dales

The Other Boleyn Girl (2008) movie also made use of the amazing scenery of Cavedale near Castleton and Dovedale near Ilam. These are just two of the many gorgeous dales and valleys in Derbyshire and the Peak District.

The Derwent Valley

And when did you last see your father (2007) movie starring Colin Firth, Jim Broadbend and Juliet Stevenson was filmed in the Cromford, the upper Derwent Valley and Stanage Edge.

Elvaston Castle Country Park, Derby

Elvaston Castle is a beautiful old house which sadly finds itself in a poor situation today.

Ladybower ReservoirThe Reservoirs

Some of aerial shots in The Dam Busters (1955) movie were filmed around Derwent Reservoir, Howden Reservoir and Ladybower Reservoir in  the Peak District National Park.

Wingfield Manor, South Wingfield

An English Heritage site Wingfield Manor, now just a ruin, was where Earl of Shrewsbury imprisoned Mary Queen of Scots in the 16th century.
